In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, Vietnam has imposed travel restrictions on those entering the country. However, some people like foreign diplomat, expert, entrepreneur, high-skilled worker and some special cases authorized by local authorities, are allowed to come back to Vietnam with some commercial flights that have resumed their operations. The strict quarantine requirement is still in place for all travelers entering Vietnam. The hotel is supposed to be booked for 14 days, but in some cases it might take longer due to waiting time for covid testing.
In upcoming time Qatar Airways offers inbound flights from Doha to Ho Chi Minh City, scheduled for September in their weekly Sunday rotations. In order to book a flight, the customers need to have ready the following documents (scan ALL in 1 file), which they need to provide to the airlines:
- Passport copy (validity is at least 6 months prior to departure)
- Approval from the People’s Committee of your province
- Approval from Immigration Department together with visa or resident card
- Approval from International Heath Quarantine center of HCMC: (Trung Tâm Kiểm Dịch Y tế Quốc Tế – 40 Nguyến văn Trỗi, Phú Nhuận , HCMC) and same approval from your province if you are based in a province.
- Booking confirmation for quarantine period showing check-in & check out dates + Transportation booking
- International-coverage insurance or commitment from invited company on all expense if passenger is found covid-19-positive during quarantine
All mentioned above must be provided no later than 7 working days prior to departure (example: deadline is 5 AUG for departure 15 AUG).
- Additional requirement is to have Covid-19 Real-time – PCR test to be done at a WHO / government certified lab/clinic 3-7 calendar days prior to arrival (Example: the flight is on 29 AUG, the test should be done from 23-26 AUG). The negative test results has to be provided prior to boarding.

If you are expert and you really need to go for a business trip to Europe, the recommendation is to apply for above mentioned approvals before leaving Vietnam as this is a long process which might take few weeks. Additionally, contact the airlines you will fly with, to make sure all your papers are in order and they are submitted in advance.
For the family members traveling together with experts, it is now possible to enter Vietnam. However, if the family member wants to travel alone, the process is complex. This is a situation for today which might not be valid next week.
